This NPORS course is designed for trained telehandler operators who need to extend their skills to safely lift and move suspended loads. Handling loads that are not fixed or supported directly on the forks introduces greater risk, requiring enhanced awareness, preparation, and technique.
Through a combination of classroom learning and hands-on training, learners will develop the competence to operate telehandlers with suspended loads safely and in line with industry regulations.
What You’ll Learn:
Training includes a mix of theory and practical instruction. Learners will apply what they learn during supervised lift scenarios using real equipment.
- Responsibilities of the operator when working with suspended loads
- Load dynamics, including stability and the pendulum effect
- Identifying and using appropriate lifting accessories (slings, chains, hooks, etc.)
- Understanding and interpreting lifting plans and load charts
- Effective communication with a slinger/signaller using industry-standard hand signals
- Safely attaching, lifting, transporting, and positioning suspended loads
- Managing risks, including overhead obstructions and ground conditions
- Shutdown, isolation, and post-operation procedures
Assessment & Certification:
Learners will be assessed via a practical test and written questions. Upon successful completion, the NPORS Suspended Loads (N138) category will be added to their operator card (traditional or CSCS-affiliated).
