This NPORS Plant Machinery Marshal (C133) certification equips learners with the necessary skills, knowledge, and understanding to guide and direct plant equipment safely and effectively. It is designed for plant operatives who require both theory and practical training in marshalling duties as part of their role.

What You'll Learn:

By the end of this training, you will be able to:

  • Understand your responsibilities as a Plant Machinery Marshal within the context of industry legislation and safety standards
  • Apply industry-standard safety practices, including setting up exclusion zones and managing unloading operations
  • Communicate clearly and effectively using approved hand signals, signs, and other communication methods
  • Select, use, and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Safely guide plant machinery in various conditions, including confined spaces and blind spots
  • Recognise and manage environmental hazards and implement control measures
  • Carry out proper end-of-shift shutdown and securing procedures

Training Delivery and Assessment

Training includes theory sessions and hands-on marshalling exercises, delivered by experienced, qualified instructors

Assessment includes:

  • NPORS practical observation
  • Written or oral theory test
Certification Options:
  • Construction industry learners: NPORS/CSCS Construction Plant Operator Card (valid for 2 years)

    • Must complete relevant NVQ during the 2-year card period to upgrade

  • Non-construction learners: NPORS Traditional Operator Card (valid 3–5 years depending on employer/sector requirements)

This course is suitable for anyone who needs to guide and direct vehicles and plant machinery on-site, whether as a full-time marshaller or as part of their broader operational responsibilities. It is ideal for new and experienced operatives alike who are required to carry out marshalling duties safely and confidently.

Pre-Requisites
  • There are no formal entry requirements
  • Learners must inform the trainer of any medical issues or physical conditions that could affect participation
  • A suitable work area with available plant equipment is required for on-site delivery
Course Length
  • Novice: 1 day (max 3 learners)
  • Refresher: 1 day (max 3 learners)
  • EWT: 1 hour (max 6 learners)
