The Industrial Counterbalance Forklift/Lift Truck is a highly versatile machine commonly used across construction and industrial sites for lifting, transporting, and positioning materials. Equipped with an extendable boom, it combines the functionality of a forklift with the reach of a crane, making it essential for many site operations.

This NPORS N001 certification course provides operators with the skills, knowledge, and practical experience required to operate a forklift safely and competently, in line with legal and industry standards.

What You’ll Learn:

The training combines classroom-based learning with practical instruction and hands-on exercises. Learners will operate real machinery in realistic scenarios to apply what they've learned.

  • Understanding operator responsibilities and common hazards in plant operations
  • Reviewing manufacturer guidance, specifications, and regulatory requirements
  • Identifying major machine components and explaining their functions
  • Pre-use safety checks and fault reporting
  • Starting, maneuvering, and stopping the machine safely and safely dismounting
  • Configuring for travel, travelling with and without loads over varied ground and gradients
  • Positioning and using the forklift in confined or open spaces
  • Safe lifting, handling, and placing of loads at different locations
  • Loading/unloading of transport vehicles
  • Fitting, removing, and using attachments correctly
  • Preparing the machine for end-of-shift and secure shutdown

Assessment & Certification:

Assessment is conducted through a practical test and a written theory paper. Successful participants will receive one of the following:

  • NPORS/CSCS Operator Card (valid for 2 years, upgradeable with NVQ)
  • NPORS Traditional Card (valid for 3 to 5 years, based on company/sector requirements)

Who is this course for?
This course is intended for individuals who need to obtain a formal qualification in operating lift trucks/forklifts. It's suitable for both new operators and experienced users needing refresher training or certification.
Pre-Requisites
  • Suitable physical fitness for operating heavy equipment
  • Learners must disclose any health concerns or special requirements
  • For on-site training, adequate classroom and operational areas must be provided
Course Length
Novice: 5 days (max 3 learners)
Refresher: 1 day (max 3 learners) 
EWT: 2.5 hours (max 4 learners)
